On August 9th & 10th at Shiloh Station Six, Stephens County Fire Service Trained 20 new members of the County First Responders Program. Members of this program assist Stephens county's Emergency Medical Services by quickly responding to calls for help when paged out. Members are trained in areas such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Vital Signs, and basic First Aid.

Members also received hands-on instruction in stretcher usage, ambulance driving as well as an orientation to equipment such as the "LUCAS chest compression system" which reduces responder fatigue and delivers consistent chest compression. The "LIFEPAK 15 Cardiac Monitor" and various instruments in the patient compartment.

The County First Responders program offers immense value to citizens especially in rural areas where response time is delayed. Time is a crucial factor in cardiac arrests, where seconds matter first responders make it up by starting early CPR increasing the chances of circulation returning.
